Since 1972, Dainese has been developing motorcycle safety through innovative protective technologies that have marked the history of motorcycle racing. Dainese D-Air® represents the culmination of over 30 years of research and development – an intelligent airbag designed to automatically detect dangerous situations and to activate in milliseconds, offering superior protection just when it really matters.

Developed through the experience gained on MotoGP™ tracks and tested on every terrain and in the most extreme conditions, the D-air® system works without cables or connections to the motorcycle, ensuring maximum safety, freedom of movement and reliability in every situation. It integrates advanced technology, intelligent algorithms and cutting-edge materials to ensure the highest level of freedom and protection.

The precision of air, uniform protection.

The Shield – the innovative airbag part of the Dainese D-air® system – is built taking advantage of patented microfilament technology, which allows the internal airflow to be controlled. The microfilaments join the walls of the airbag and in case of activation keep them at a constant distance of 5 cm over the whole coverage area, preventing air movement to guarantee uniform protection throughout.

This gives the airbag an engineered 3D shape, which envelops the coverage area and absorbs up to seven times more energy than hardshell protective gear could dissipate. This is air protection.

From the track to the road – a life-saving algorithm.

The software and its sophisticated algorithm, developed over 30 years of experience in the most extreme environments, are the core of the electronic control unit, the real brain of D-air® that detects and analyzes incoming data from the sensors 1,000 times per second. Owing to a sophisticated sensor network, accelerometers, gyroscopes and GPS, the system autonomously recognizes dangerous situations and activates the airbag in just a few milliseconds. Introduced to MotoGP™ racing in 2007, Dainese’s algorithm is now being constantly refined by collecting data on millions of kilometers traveled on road, track and any dynamic situation.

Every Dainese D-air® airbag system is designed and developed for its specific field of application, to react and activate intelligently depending on the environment for which it was designed.
